Activities and quantities of lysosomal enzymes during mammary tumor regression.

چکیده
The relation of lysosomal enzymes to mammary tumor regression was studied in the highly hormone-dependent MTW9 rat mammary carcinoma. Quantities of the enzymes were determined with the use of a histochemical modification of the single radial immunodiffusion method. Major findings were as follows, (a) Acid phosphatase, arylsulfatase, ßgalactosidase, and 0-glucuronidase significantly increased in total activities after 48 hr of tumor regression, (b) A marked shift toward free (nonsedimentable) enzyme of each acid hydrolase occurred later in the regression process, (c) Regressing tumors contained larger quantities of j3-galactosidase and 0-glucuronidase, and the increased amounts closely corresponded to the increments in activities, (d) De novo synthesis of 0-galactosidase and ß-glucuronidase probably occurred during hormone-dependent tumor regression.

Enzyme activities in regressing estrone-induced mammary tumors of the rat.
Chemical and histochemical studies of three lysosomal enzymes-acid phosphatase, ß-glucuronidase, and cathepsinshowed that these enzymes increase during the regression of estrone-induced mammary tumors. One week after removal of the estrone pellet, the tumors had regressed by 50%, at which time acid phosphatase had increased by 67%, cathepsin by 111%, and 0-glucuronidase by 138%. At Week 2, alt...

The present study investigated the effects of E. coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced mastitis model in rat on the activity of antioxidant enzyme systems. To achieve this purpose, E. coli LPS were infused into the mammary gland of 12 rats 72 hr postpartum and compared with 12 rats in control group infused intramammary placebo sterile pyrogene – free, physiological saline. The...
متن کاملIncreased Susceptibility of Cytosol Proteins to Proteolytic Digestion during Regression of a Hormone-dependent Mammary Tumor1
Work done in the past has indicated that MTW9 tumor regression cannot be explained by either an alteration of the metabolic rate, a difference in the number of cells released from the tumor, or a homograft type of rejection. The gen eral metabolic activity, as measured by blood flow and oxygen and glucose consumption per unit weight, was found to be equal or higher in regressing than in growing...
